Qualifications

  • Appointment as King’s Counsel in 1998
     

  • In 2011 awarded certification as a hearings commissioner (chairperson) under the provisions of the Resource Management Act 1991 with top grade “excellent”.
     

  • In 2012 admitted as a Fellow (Arbitration) of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand Inc.


General

  • In 1995 appointed by the Solicitor-General of New Zealand to act as counsel to assist The Commission of Inquiry into the Collapse of a Viewing Platform at Cave Creek, near Punakaiki on the West Coast, involving a lengthy hearing and the presentation of a report to the House of Representatives
     

  • Formerly a member of the panel of prosecuting counsel appointed by the Serious Fraud Office circa 1998


New Zealand Law Society

  • President of the Canterbury District Law Society between 1997 and 1999
     

  • Member of the Council of the New Zealand Law Society between 1996 and 1998
     

  • Member of the District Disciplinary Tribunal 2007 and 2008


  • Member of the Council of the New Zealand Bar Association from 2003 to 2009
